Health Care Reform Bill 2009

Health Care Reform Bill 2009

To start with, this is a very “touchy” subject for all.

I am stating my personal beliefs and thoughts and in no way want to offend anyone with this topic. We all have a right to express our opinions in a friendly format, as are my intentions.

Be as it may, I am only touching on just bits of the Health Care Reform Bill.

From what I have heard and seen from the news, I have my concerns, I agree with part of the bill but not all of it.

In regards to the illegals in the United States of America, I do not believe they should be entitled to health care benefits or education.

Why?

Because there are 48 million Americans without insurance. The other side of the coin is this, what are the breakdown percentages of why the 48 million do not have insurance?

  • What is the percentage that chooses to buy cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol when they have the financial means to purchase an individual insurance policy?

  • What is the percentage that has the financial means to purchase an individual insurance policy and chooses not to?

  • What is the percentage that does not have the financial means available to purchase an individual insurance policy?

  • What is the percentage that lost insurance due to divorce and does not have the financial means available?

  • What is the percentage that if they had the means financially available to purchase an individual insurance policy are ineligible due to a pre-existing condition that is an automatic denial by all insurance companies because the medical condition is in the top 10 list of automatic denials such as Epilepsy, Diabetes, Asthma and Cancer to name a few?

  • What is the percentage that is ineligible for Medicaid due to income restrictions no matter how small the amount?

  • What is the percentage of age 65 years and older?

  • What is the percentage of persons’ age 20 to 30 years?

  • What is the percentage of persons’ age 31 to 40 years?

  • What is the percentage of persons’ age 41 to 50 years?

  • What is the percentage of persons’ age 51 to 65 years?

  • What is the percentage of females without health insurance?

  • What is the percentage of males without health insurance?

In regards to the public option, that sounds okay, but need to have more details regarding it. However, I do not support government control of health care. Just look at Medicare and Medicaid. Enough said.

It has been said that persons with pre-existing conditions will be covered, my questions is this. What is the catch? This is something I do not trust. Concerning pre-existing conditions, I would not be surprised if there are still requirements to be met for an individual or group policy. However, I could be wrong.

Concerning insurance companies, yes I agree changes need to be made and individual and group policies need to be affordable for the consumer and the employer. Health care costs are rising for several reasons.

I do believe that health care reform needs to happen but in a way that it works for all of us, how that is achieved is going to take much work, decision making, reviewing of finances, listening to the people, working with health insurance companies, and to stop spending money unnecessarily in the federal and state programs that are not a necessity.

The majority know I am quite passionate about health care reform and the illness I live with. Most are unaware that I am unable to financially purchase an individual insurance policy and also uninsurable due to my Epilepsy. I am ineligible for Medicaid by $6.04.

If I had the financial means to purchase an individual health insurance policy I would automatically be denied due to a pre-existing condition – epilepsy which insurance carriers consider being too costly to insure persons with this disability and chronic illness.

Since I have a disability, many are probably wondering why not get Social Security? Tried and was unsuccessful, as I am not disabled enough according to their criteria.

The only way I will ever be able to have health insurance is if I am married, gainfully employed with benefits through group policy or the health care reform bill changes to allow persons with pre-existing conditions to be covered on an individual policy without requirements to be met.

If I had the financial means available yes I would purchase a policy in a heartbeat. If I were eligible, I would purchase a policy. At present time, I do not meet the requirements necessary for purchase of an individual health care policy and I am not happy about it.

The one thing I am thankful for is the fact that my son is covered by his father’s policy since we are now divorced, but if that option was not available he would have been covered by Medicaid. At least all children are covered.

We live in a time of uncertainty.

President Obama released a statement at 11:43 PM ET: Tonight, in an historic vote, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would finally make real the promise of quality, affordable health care for the American people. The Affordable Health Care for America Act is a piece of legislation that will provide stability and security for Americans who have insurance; quality affordable options for those who don’t; and bring down the cost of health care for families, businesses, and the …

Help answer the question about health care reform bill

Is the US health care reform bill missing an important element?
In our haste to pass what may or may not be an important bill relating health care, has it occurred to anyone to consider how much we may be save by passing lawsuit reform as well? Each year millions of dollars if not more go to waste in the court system over lawsuits, which causes our taxes and our health insurance to go up that the system can pay the judges and lawyers there court fees and doctors can pay their skyrocketing malpractice insurance rates. Any attempt at health care reform would have to address this point as well if we were to see meaningful results from Obama administration's push to overhaul the US health care system, yet this has gone largely unnoticed. Shouldn't we be pushing for lawsuit reform in this health care reform as well so as to maximize the benefits of any such overhaul?

Given the government's track record of spending gigantic amounts of money only to make things worse, I do not support the bill and have written to my representative expressing my concerns. Overall, the less government the better.

  4. Jewish Paladin JPA & Libertarian says:

No, I do not support the bill. Throwing more money at an issue and giving people insurance is NOT reform. It's a band-aid for an out of control cost situation that was created in large part by government intervention in the health care sector. True reform would involve addressing the issues that caused the costs to skyrocket and push people out of affordable health insurance.

They are opposed to any reform, thus it makes sense as to why they would only interview those who parrot their beliefs. http://localhealthguideonline.com/poll-finds-most-doctors-support-public-option/
" The researchers say they found strong support for a public option among all categories of doctors. “We even saw that support being the same whether physicians lived in rural areas or metropolitan areas,” says Federman.

“Whether they lived in southern regions of the United States or traditionally liberal parts of the country,” says Keyhani, “we found that physicians, regardless — whether they were salaried or they were practice owners, regardless of whether they were specialists or primary care providers, regardless of where they lived — the support for the public option was broad and widespread.”

Keyhani says doctors already have experience with government-run health care, with Medicare. And she says the survey shows that, overall, they like it." Kaiser Foundation.

THEY LIED AGAIN…BOZO said this would not be voted on until Monday or Tuesday..and then at 10 at night they do this.

    LIES LIES LIES…

    What do I think?

They are CONTROL FREAKS worried about an AGENDA and pissed off they lost governors in the election. Every time they lose something they do something like this. Instead of listening to AMERICA (and they aren't..they have the lowest approval rating of all time so AMERICA IS NOT HAPPY)…..they push through with what they want.

Libs and Dems are blinded by the party. I am sorry but they cant' see ONE FLAW and that is scary. If it was a health bill and fair to all why rush it? Why in the dead of night and why interrupting Republicans while they were talking? Everything had to be stopped several times so they could speak. But every time the republicans started to read from the bill about what wasn't right..they interrupted. WHY? Why can't they be respectful? This was a discussion of pros and cons..and the dems can't listen to ANYTHING..WHY?

Why did they shut out republicans in the cap and trade thing last week too? First time in history they passed something without a republican being present..and it was because they were not TOLD about it.

If this party is about truth and honesty and fairness to AMERICA …why dont' they realize that other people have rights and opinions too and they ARE WORKING for us and should at least LISTEN!

My thoughts? It is an AGENDA they have to shove through so they can do amnesty for illegals next year and get more votes.

They know they are toast by pushing this..but if they can get this through and get illegals to be made legal..they can CHEAT their way through another election. '

They know they can't make it on their honesty and good faith and ony 20 percent of AMERICANs say they are libs or dems now…why? Why the big change in one year?

My thoughts are this administration is out for no good. THEY have AGENDAS and do not care about AMERICA. If they did…why are the punishing the poor by making them pay more for insurance than they make in one year? Why are they going to put them in jail and fine them ? Even the POTUS said that taxes would go up and AMERICA would have to sacrifice for this. Why dont they listen to HIS WORDS? Why cant any democrat answer this?

There are other things to do…and you can do this step by step and see what works and what doesn't and tweak as you go.

The American voter has shown….they do not know what this is going to do. They do not know the consequences of this bill.

"and this is how liberty dies….with a THUNDEROUS applause!"
